Why pool site supervision matters

An infinity or overflow pool leaves little margin for error. The overflow edge must be perfectly level – a variation of a few millimetres creates an uneven water sheet that cannot be corrected without structural intervention. Pipe positions are cast into the slab before the walls go up. Pool shell waterproofing must be executed correctly the first time.

These are not finishing details. They are structural and hydraulic decisions made during construction that define how the pool will perform for its entire lifespan. Without someone on site – or remotely monitoring progress with a trained eye – errors at these stages are rarely caught in time.

The cost of correcting a misaligned overflow edge, a poorly routed pipe network, or a waterproofing failure after the pool is complete is always significantly higher than the cost of supervision that prevented the error in the first place.

For large or complex projects – pools with demanding hydraulic requirements, difficult site access, or construction teams with limited experience of overflow pool construction – physical presence at key stages is not optional. It is what ensures the technical drawings are followed precisely and that the architectural intent survives contact with the construction site.

On-site supervision also allows for direct training of local teams, which is particularly relevant on international projects where specialist pool contractors may be unavailable. The supervisor works alongside the team, validating each phase before the next begins.


Remote supervision

Remote supervision has become a reliable and cost-effective alternative for projects where full on-site presence is not feasible – whether for geographical, budgetary, or logistical reasons.

The model is straightforward: the site owner or construction coordinator sends regular photographs and videos at agreed intervals and at each critical stage. These are reviewed by the supervisor, who provides written or verbal feedback – corrections, validations, and instructions for the next phase. Video calls via WhatsApp or Google Meet allow real-time discussion of site conditions when needed.

This approach works well when the construction team is competent and the technical drawings are sufficiently detailed to leave no ambiguity on site. It requires clear communication protocols from the outset – agreed reporting frequency, defined escalation procedures, and a shared understanding of which stages require mandatory sign-off before work proceeds.

Remote supervision is not a reduced version of on-site supervision. It is a different discipline – one that demands rigorous documentation, disciplined communication, and the ability to read a construction site from photographs and videos with the same precision as a physical inspection.


The hybrid approach

For most projects, the most effective solution combines both. Routine progress monitoring is handled remotely – reducing cost and allowing the supervisor to follow the project closely without being permanently on-site. Targeted visits are scheduled at the stages where physical presence is essential: levelling of the overflow profile, pressure testing of the hydraulic circuit, waterproofing inspection before tiling, and commissioning.
