Can you build an infinity pool yourself?

Not as a self-build. You can run the project: specialist plans, checks at the stages that cannot be undone, a local contractor on site. You do not have to hire an overflow pool company.

You cannot set a vanishing edge, a gutter, and a balance tank from a magazine sequence. The weir has to be level. On an overflow pool, return jets belong in the floor, not only in the walls. Those choices are fixed before the pour.

What is possible is to lead. The owner, or the house architect, holds the brief. A specialist produces the plans and stays for the irreversible points. Local trades build. That is how most of our projects run outside France.

What “yourself” does not cover

Doing it yourself usually means watching videos, buying fittings, and asking the mason to “make it overflow.”

That is how you get a flat weir instead of a bevel, wall inlets instead of floor inlets, and a tank that is too small. None of that is visible on a principle sketch. It shows up when the water is in.

The shell is concrete. Once it is poured, the edge profile and the pipe layout do not get a second chance.

You do not have to use a pool builder

A catalogue pool company is one route. It is not required.

An architect plus local companies can deliver an overflow pool if the dossier is complete and someone checks levels, embedded fittings, and the weir before they are closed up. The split of roles is set out here:

The third way is the one our clients use most: we draw and follow up; the crew on site is theirs.

Plans and follow-up

The document that makes the build possible is not a concept sketch. It is the set of construction and hydraulic plans: structure, weir, gutter, tank, pipe runs, and plant room.

What that set contains is in the guide to infinity pool plans. How the office works with a local team is on how we work.

Follow-up is not a courtesy visit. It is the points you cannot reverse: setting-out, steel and fittings, pour and weir, waterproofing, and first fill.

What the owner still does

You choose the site and the brief. You appoint the architect if there is one. You appoint the companies. You do not need to become the hydraulic designer or the person who levels the weir.

That is “building it yourself” in the only sense that holds: you own the project. You do not self-perform the overflow.

Morana’s note

The owner can lead. The overflow is not a DIY pour. Plans first, then the weir, the tank and the floor inlets, checked before the concrete closes.

Frequently Asked Questions – Building an infinity pool yourself

Can I build an infinity pool myself?

Not the overflow works. You can lead the project with specialist plans and a local contractor.

Do I need an infinity-pool company?

No. Local trades can build from a complete plan set if someone checks the weir, the tank and the pipework at the right time.

What do I need before excavation?

Construction and hydraulic plans, not a principle sketch. See the guide to infinity pool plans.
